How do they relate to one another?

What differences, where are any differences??!?? This Practice is all about no differences, and everything is related!

But here are the differences and relations:

A "Mondo" is a question/answer encounter heartmind-to-heartmind between Teacher and Student, sometimes involving the meaning of a Koan or sometimes any other matter that is an opportunity for Zen teaching ... Many famous Mondo have been handed down as teaching stories and become Koans themselves.

A monk asked Chao-chou, "I have just entered the monastery: please give me some guidance."
Chao-chou said, "Have you eaten your rice gruel?"
The monk said,"Yes, I've eaten."
Chao-chou said, "Then go wash your bowl."

I think anyone who has been hanging around Treeleaf can pierce that Koan pretty easily.

A "Kogi" is just a lecture, by anyone, anywhere, any time.

A "Teisho" is a more formal lecture by a Zen Master, usually presented during a Sesshin or the like. It may be about a Mondo! Nishijima Roshi rightly says that the talk should not be delivered "during" Shikantaza, but many teachers do. So, let us say that it should be heard with the eyes and seen with the ears even if delivered during Zazen or between Zazen sittings.
