Yes I do! These are books that I have liked, so just personal experience - not Treeleaf recommended.
We used to use The Mind of Clover by Robert Aitken. Unfortunately it is kind of a product of his time so slightly sexist views of gender roles.
I quite like Opening to Oneness by Nancy Mujo Baker. Its flavor is very much that of Bernie Glassman's Zen Peacemakers Order
Being Upright: Zen Meditation and Bodhisattva Precepts by Reb Anderson tries to apply the Precepts to every day life.
The Heart of Being: Moral and Ethical Teachings of Zen Buddhism by John Daido Loori I liked as well.
Waking Up to What You Do: A Zen Practice for Meeting Every Situation with Intelligence and Compassion by Diane Eshin Rizzetto is an interesting book. It uses the Precepts as a way to frame how to "use the Zen precepts as tools to develop a keen awareness of the motivations behind every aspect of our behavior—to “wake up to what we do”—from moment to moment. "
I liked it but it is a bit different.
Opening to Oneness is my current go to. I have been reading parts of the last 4 listed during this Ango.
Again, these are just books I have read and liked. Not official Treeleaf recommendations. So take these recommendations with a grain of salt.
Actually, our Treeleaf "Suggested BOOKS & MEDIA on Zen Practice" list does have a section there on "BUDDHIST ETHICS & ENGAGED BUDDHISM" scrolling down ...
Hi,
The following is a recommended book list for our Sangha. It covers a variety of works on Zen, life, “Just Sitting” Shikantaza Zazen, Master Dogen and Buddhism in general. Thank you to all who provided input, and the list is still open to new suggestions and additions. Please email or PM me (Jundo) with any further
And it does have most of the books the Shinshi lists, all excellent. I will take the liberty of adding there the other titles that Shinshi mentions on his recommendation (I have read most of them, not all.)
