    Oct. 10th-11th, 2025 -喪儀座禅- Zazen for Rev. Bondō Kōjitsu Williams, on his passing ...

    adv1.jpg
    To mourn, celebrate, recall, bow to and honor our priest and dear friend, the Rev. Bondō Kōjitsu Williams, 梵道 好日, on his passing from this visible world, this Treeleaf Sangha will gather and sit together in Zazen. Please join us if you can.

    We return to this breath, this step, this bowl of rice.
    We let go again and again, not just of hope or fear, but of our very selves.
    This is the liberation Zen speaks of, not beyond suffering, but through it.
    - Kojitsu

    Our gathering is dedicated to his peace, to his good effects that continue in this world, to his family, to all who knew and loved him, and to all sentient beings.

    We will chant and sit together in our room here:

    The password (if needed): << dogen >>

    This gathering will last 90 minutes, with informal tea to follow. For your local time, please check the Practice Calendar here: TREELEAF NOW >> (Commencing 10am Japan Saturday morning, NY 9pm, LA 6pm Friday night, London 2am and Paris 3am Saturday morning), and you may join and sit with us any time thereafter here:

    .
    For our members in places and situations where you cannot join because of the time, we ask you to sit Zazen during the following day dedicated to Rev. Kojitsu, and to post in this thread below that you have done so. Some of our priests will be sitting at different hours of the following day, and will post films of their sittings below in this thread. You are invited to do so too if you wish, especially if you cannot join our live gathering.
    .
    However, if you can, you are encouraged to come into the Zoom sitting to show our community together. Dark, loose fitting clothing is suggested for sitting.

    Our dedication today ...

    We are keenly aware that birth and death give way to each other;
    that cold and heat vary in their turn.
    They come like lightning flashing in a vast sky;
    they go like waves calming on a great sea.
    Today, that is the case with Reverend Bondō KōJitsu,
    who has newly entered complete quiescence.
    His causal conditions supportive of life are exhausted,
    and his human lifespan has suddenly passed.
    Understanding the impermanence of all things,
    he enters nirvana in ease.
    We respectfully request the pure assembly all present here
    to humbly chant the Heart of the Perfection of Great Wisdom Sutra,
    that the great effects accumulated thereby may adorn the path of awakening.
    We respectfully invite the pure assembly to mindfully recite
    Maka Hannya Haramita Shingyo

    Some people asked about donations, flowers and other remembrances.

    Koji's wife, Vi, wrote to say that they do appreciate the thoughts, are fine financially, and "Koji would've wanted for us to just continue making the dharma available."

    Yes, that's Koji.

          How wonderful to see so many folks gather especially to remember and honor Koji. He would've been so moved and so grateful. He always looked for connection and fellowship, so imagine how happy he would've been to see everyone. Thank you, dear friends.

                Thank you Jundo Roshi and everyone for this Zazenkai. A couple of my sangha members joined from Chile and Argentina and others on YouTube. May Kojitsu never be forgotten.

                        The passing of our friend Koji really touched me and made me grow as a person and as a buddhist. Yesterday his words really made me emotive, it is impressive how the voice of somebody with the weight of impermanence in the shoulders can teach. I feel that I learned more yesterday than in years of practice. Thanks for everything Koji.

                          I never got to know Kojitsu, but I'm thankful for what he has left behind here at Treeleaf and I look forward to stumbling across his posts on my ventures into the forums.

                            I was sad to miss sitting this live, but Mattie the golden retriever had some post-surgical issues and had an unscheduled return to the vet on Friday (she is doing better now though).

                            We sat this evening, and dedicate any merit to our friend Kojitsu and offer metta and virtual hugs to his family and dear ones. May all beings be at peace.
