Hello everyone,
I am grateful for this section of our forums and to know that the Sangha is there to support one another through our many diverse ailments.
I live with chronic moderate to major depression, as well as insomnia, tinnitus, and the various aches and pains of getting older.
As such, when I sit Zazen, I am learning to allow the constant high-pitch ringing in my head and that there is a certain degree of sleepiness to my practice. Particularly toward the end of my sit.
To paraphrase Jundō Sensei, “Even sleepy Zazen is good Zazen,” I still must maintain a certain amount of awareness to stay alert enough that I will not fall asleep and fall off my cushion. It has happened and, while comical, can be disheartening.
Thank you all for continuing your practice. You all encourage those of us who are still very early in our walk on this Path.
Gassho,
