    The End of Another Season

    Day 31,734 and counting

Thank you for the many kind birthday wishes !

Today is day 31,734 in my life and tomorrow I start my 88th trip around the sun which is that Big Star at the center of our constellation in the known Universe. A couple of years ago, based on an average heart rate of 72 beats per minute I calculated the total number of times my heart had taken a beat. Well, that estimate is is now up to 'One billion, six hundred and nine million, four hundred and twenty-five thousand, two hundred and twenty-eight'; an awesome amount by any account. And, I often still wonder how many moments exist in a heart beat and run out of the number of fingers Avaloketeshvara has to count on.

We've now finished eleven years of the Dharma Gates and it's time to put them to rest until the winter soltice again. This year we received over 29,000 views, making the daily average viewings at just under 300. I see that as one tremendous boost to our combined karmic consciousness. And, I want you all to know how grateful I am for those who participate in this activity. I hope you all found it worthwhile, learned a little bit, and grew in your practice.

It is sad to break it off but it always ends on a new beginning with the celebration of the Baby Buddha's Birth. Isn't that just fitting; full of ups and downs, empty or not, including many, many miracles and surprises, embracing all conditions of life.
    Thanks again....
Nine bows to you all in gassho, Shokai stlah

Thank you for these teachings! I confess I am WELL behind, as I just recorded gate 61 in my journal. Clearly I need more balance in my practice. So I hope these stay up a while, maybe I'll get through them all by the time Ango rolls around again.
