Reminded me a lot of my aunt's funeral home in Mexico. I would visit my cousins and they lived in the back of the funeral home. Nothing like walking in the midst of a wake while you're a child on a summer vacation.

I was surprised at how negatively people viewed the funeral profession. Is that a common cultural thing in Japan? I've always had a lot of respect for funeral directors and morticians, certainly never considered them "unclean." Had actually considered going into the profession myself at one point.

This was certainly a very interesting look at how funeral services are performed in Japan. Does seem more intimate than how things are done here in the States.
